Jadeja In Town

Ahmad Saidullah

18 September

Toronto, Ontario (September 18, 1998) Ajay Jadeja who captained the India in the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia arrived in Toronto at 10 a.m. today, event organizers International Manngement Group (IMG) comfirmed.

Jadeja was flown out as a replacement for Jatin Paranjpe who was injured in the third Sahara Cup match. Paranjpe was ruled out of the series by Dr. David Greenberg, the event doctor. The Pakistani Cricket Board acceded to BCCI's request for a replacement.

An IMG spokesperson in Toronto dismissed as ``speculation'' that Sachin Tendulkar had boarded a 2 a.m. flight from India and was due to play the final game in the series on Sunday.

BCCI had made efforts to contact Sachin Tendulkar once the medical assessment of Paranjpe's injury was communicated to the boards. The former Indian captain had left Bombay for Lonavla before carrying on to Pune before he was reached, reports said. Jadeja was then flown out so he could be match ready for Saturday's game.

India are down 1-2 in the five-match series. Rain is forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
