LAHORE, Aug 17: The National senior cricket camp for 25 probables will begin on Aug 20 while the Pakistan 'A' team's camp commences tomorrow (Tuesday).

The senior team will take part in the Sahara Cup five-match series against India at Toronto next month. The Pakistan 'A' team will participate in the Commonwealth Games to be held at Kuala Lumpur from Sept 11.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood, in a press conference here on Monday, told mediamen that both the coaches, Javed Miandad and Mohsin Hasan Khan, have accepted the PCB offers to take up their assignments. The PCB executive council, which met here on Sunday, appointed former Test batsmen as coaches of the two sides.

Khalid Mahmood told newsmen that in a facsimile message from London, Javed Miandad thanked the PCB council for entrusting him the responsibilities of the coach to guide the senior players and also intimated that he would be reaching Pakistan on Aug 26 to take charge of the camp starting on Aug 27. Mohsin Khan informed the PCB secretary from Karachi by telephone that he would take charge of the Pakistan 'A' camp on Aug 19 (Wednesday).

The selected players have been directed to report for the camp tomorrow at 10 a.m.

The PCB chairman stated that contracts with the two coaches would be signed shortly and there would be no problems regarding financial terms.

The PCB official finally named 23 probables for the senior camp, excluding Ijaz Mahmood, Zahid Fazal and Ali Gohar as recommended by the selection committee.

The PCB has included Humayun Farhat and Fazal-i-Akbar.

The probables asked to report for the camp are:

Aamir Sohail (captain), Saeed Anwar, Salim Malik, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ijaz Ahmad Senior, Shahid Afridi, Azhar Mahmood, Rashid latif (wicketkeeper), Wasim Akram, Moin Khan (wicketkeeper), Waqar Younis, Muhammad Zahid, Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Aaqib Javed, Yousaf Yohanna, Abdul Razzaq, Muhammad Akram, Ali Husain Rizvi, Murtaza Husain, Fazl-i-Akbar, Wajahatullah, Humayun Farhat (wicketkeeper), Shabbir Ahmad, Mohammad Wasim.

While replying to a question about the appointment of former first-class cricketer Azhar Zaidi as manager of the senior team for Sahara Cup, Khalid Mahmood said that in his opinion Zaidi was a good choice.

``Azhar Zaidi has been part and parcel of our cricket structure for over 25 years both as a player and as an administrator. He has successfully managed his club during many tours of Europe, Africa and Middle East. No one has ever heard of any complaint of indiscipline on or off the field problem during those tours. It is more difficult to manage a private team. I feel he should prove a good choice for the manager's slot during the official tour of Pakistan senior team,'' said Khalid Mahmood in a firm tone.

PCB Secretary Waqar Ahmed said that players, selected for the camp and who are playing abroad, are returning to Pakistan to join the camp.
