Sachin Toronto Bound?

reported for CricInfo by Ahmad Saidullah

17 September 1998

Sachin Tendulkar in the team to Kuala Lumpur may soon be on his way to bolster the sagging fortunes of the Indian team down 1-2 to Pakistan in the Sahara Cup. Although Pakistani and Indian cricket boards are said to be negotiating for additional players to be sent to Toronto, the Indian management just released a statement stating that Jatin Paranjpe who was injured in the match on Wednesday would not be able to play the remaining games.

Last night, Pakistani skipper Aamir Sohail refused to confirm that Paksitan had filed objected with Peter Burge the match referee to any additions to the Indian touring party.

Below is the official press release:

INDIAN PLAYER INJURED DURING THIRD MATCH OF SAHARA CUP

Toronto, Ontario (September 17, 1998) Due to an injury that occurred during the third match of the 1998 Sahara Cup, Indian player, Jatin Paranjpe, will be unable to continue playing, according to the event doctor, Dr. David Greenberg.

With the agreement of the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is entitled under the rules of the event to nominate a replacement.

The identity of the replacement has not yet been confirmed. Additional information will be made available as soon as possible.
