DID U KNOW...

Who made the highest individual score in an India-West Indies one-dayer? (31 May 2002)

Going into the fourth one-dayer of the five-match series at Georgetown in 1989, the West Indies had already demolished India's confidence completely. As it transpired, that final match merely sealed the home side's dominance over the tourists in emphatic fashion, giving the West Indies a 101-run win and a clean sweep over the Indians.

India put the West Indies in to bat, but they would rarely have regretted a decision as much as that one. Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes plundered 185 runs for the first wicket, and when the former was dismissed for 80 off 114 balls, Richie Richardson merely stepped up the temp, hitting 42 off 52 balls.

The visitors, driven to such frustration that even Mohammad Azharuddin turned his arm over for figures of 2-0-23-0, conceded 289 runs in a shortened innings of 43.5 overs. Haynes carried his bat for a mammoth 152 off just 126 balls, striking 12 fours and six sixes in the whirlwind knock.

India stood little chance of chasing the target, but even so, reaching only 188 for eight in 44 overs was something of a disappointment. Kapil Dev top-scored with 38, but he couldn't scale the heights that Haynes did earlier in the day. The West Indian opener's score of 152 remains the highest individual effort made in an India-West Indies one-dayer to date.
