The Canadian Cricket Association and the Sahara Cup, 1998

The Canadian Cricket Association wishes to thank the fans, players, match, club , association, media and other officials, all sponsors, volunteers and service providers for a wonderful 1998 Sahara Cup.

The weather was spectacularly cooperative. We also wish to thank Officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and of the Pakistan Cricket Board and of IMG/TWI for their continued excellence and professional Event Mangement in their staging of the third annual Sahara Cup.

We were also treated to the grace and warmth of Sir Clyde and Lady Muriel Walcott once again. We look forward to the continuation of the Sahara Cup series in 1999 and in 2000 and we hope we will be honoured by their presence and hopefully in the ICC Trophy 2001 in Toronto as well. We look forward to return visits by Full Member ICC Board representatives, and we hope that ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya will find time in his extremely busy schedule to be with us in 1999.

Canadian Cricket grassroots development relies heavily on the benefits of the Sahara Cup series. North America and Canada in particular must benefit. One tangible benefit and stimulus has been the start of the installation of a minimum of five (5) other grass squares in the Toronto area, in preparation for the 2001 ICC Trophy.

We also express our sincere appreciation and thanks for the assistance of members of the CCA Executive and Board members and Officials, as well as Ontario Cricket Association and Toronto and District Cricket Association officials, players and cricket volunteers for their tireless contribution.

Let us move forward together in our quest for Official One Day International status in 2000 and in hosting the 2001 ICC Trophy. Congratulations all. We saw some wonderful cricket and in 1999, there will be no Commonwealth Games selection with which to contend.

Finally, we thank all of our friends, supporters and well-wishers for their kind contributions, messages and acts of goodwill. To those travelling, we wish you speedy and safe journeys home. See you next year!! Tune in for further updates.
