Preliminary reports indicate that the first-ever Extraordinary General Meeting of the USA Cricket Association, held on November 4, 2000, was well-attended. More than 100 persons representing the paid-up club membership of the Association showed up at the Courtyard Marriott hotel at La Guardia Airport in New York. With last-minute payments swelling the number of paid-up member clubs to 350 or more, this was an impressive turnout for an emergency meeting called at short notice.
Early reviews of the meeting were mixed, and a full assessment will be possible only after all details are in.
The report of the Treasurer of the USACA, which had been a matter of some controversy over the past few months, was discussed at length at the General Meeting. And the item of business which had led to the meeting in the first place--the deadlock over the elections to the USACA Board--was resolved. The timeline for the elections was set at November 22, 2000 to January 24, 2001, with the previously selected auditors (Price, Waterhouse and Cooper) to monitor the process if they were still able and willing to do so.
The other agenda items did not fare so well. A great deal of time was consumed in discussing issues which had developed earlier between the USACA Board and the Executive, and this may have delayed action on the specific agenda which had been devised for the meeting. The status of these agenda items remain unclear, and they will presumably be placed before the newly elected Board after January 2001 for final disposition.
