South Africa v Zimbabwe

At Canterbury, June 29

15-Apr-2004
At Canterbury, June 29. South Africa won by 46 runs.
South Africa 5 pts, Zimbabwe 1 pt. Toss: Zimbabwe.
Kallis's second hundred of the weekend, his tenth in one-day internationals and a career-best, proved the difference between the teams, although the outcome might well have been different had Hondo not missed a tough caught-and-bowled chance when Kallis had 21. After completing his century from 137 balls, Kallis scored a further 25 runs from only ten deliveries to build on some good work from the combative Hall, who had revived his team's faltering innings with a dashing 56 that included three sixes. Zimbabwe were up with the rate during a second-wicket stand of 109 between Ebrahim and the clean-striking Friend, but when Hall bowled Friend for 82, the rest of the batting subsided tamely. Earlier, there had been an unusual climax to the South African innings when, with one ball to go, the umpires removed Blignaut from the attack for bowling his second full toss above waist-height, a no-ball which Kallis swatted for six. The over, which cost 20 in all, was completed by Hondo.
Man of the Match: J. H. Kallis. Attendance: 5,518; receipts £80,849.
