David Lloyd

England v South Africa, 4th Test, The Oval, 1st day

David Lloyd: A great day for Pietersen

August 7, 2008

Kevin Pietersen got the team that he wanted and the players responded well. Steve Harmison looks in good shape, James Anderson was accurate and England played really well today. Pietersen has had a great first day as the captain and South Africa will be disappointed with their batting performance on the first day

South Africa will bounce back. It will just be like the 3rd test because this is the same happened at that time. I knew Kevin Pieterswn will be a good captain because he is in form and Michael wasn't. So I think this England team will be so good in one-dayers if they pick good and form players.

England played well but the team is still unbalanced - Flintoff isn't good enough to bat at six, and Broad isn't good enough to be a front rank bowler. England are trying to play with twelve men but actually are playing with nine.
