The USA Cricket Association has suspended executive secretary Kenwyn Williams and is investigating his role in a protracted and angry exchange with journalists and stakeholders on the official USACA Facebook page, which was taken down shortly before 11 a.m. EST on Friday. USACA president Gladstone Dainty confirmed the suspension to ESPNcricinfo pending a hearing at a board meeting on November 10 in Florida.
"Based on what I've seen, what has been going on has not helped cricket in the United States. I don't think it has helped cricket at all," Dainty said. "That is so mindboggling. I don't think that US and world cricket deserved that, but I'm still waiting for an attempt to justify it."
When contacted by ESPNcricinfo, Williams maintained his stance that he feels he garnered good publicity for cricket in the USA and claimed that his suspension has more to do with "other much larger issues" not related to his comments posted on the USACA Facebook page.
"This has nothing to do with a facebook feed that accidentally went viral which I think personally was good for the USA aspect of the sport," Williams wrote in an email. "The board and I are at an impasse. I have been kept out of the loop for the past 2 months on matters that directly relate to the executive branch of USACA. Meetings were held and plans were drafted without my knowledge. The update on the 100 day plan was not presented to the board for review, input or consent. It was drafted by John [USACA treasurer Thickett] and Michael [USACA vice-president Gale] and the first I heard of it was from a blog."

USA Cricket Association (USACA) treasurer John Thickett has asked president Gladstone Dainty and the board to consider suspending executive secretary Kenwyn Williams and investigate his role in a protracted and angry exchange with journalists and stakeholders on the official USACA Facebook page. Dainty, according to emails obtained by ESPNcricinfo, has asked other board members to give their input on the issue before making a decision, and at least one other senior official - vice-president Michael Gale - has criticised Williams' actions.
In his response, Williams argued that his outbursts on the Facebook page have been positive for USACA because it has resulted in increased traffic and visitors to the page.
The matter relates to an article that referred to a widening rift between Williams and other members of the board over a press release issued earlier this month. The article - by this reporter - was posted on USACA's Facebook page, which is managed by Williams, with a preface calling it an example of "unethical journalistic bias". The resulting thread resulted in heated exchanges between Williams - commenting under the USACA name - and other readers.
It prompted emails from Thickett and others critical of Willams' actions. "I have received communications from several USACA Board members and cricket stakeholders regarding USACA postings on USACA's Facebook account operated by Williams," Thickett wrote in an email on Wednesday afternoon. "They don't believe the USACA postings reflect the views of USACA and are in fact denigrating to various individuals, organisations and USACA. I am requesting you as president to consider suspending Williams from his role as executive secretary pending an investigation of the postings and a review and decision by the Board."

David Hemp, the former Warwickshire and Glamorgan batsman, has stepped down as captain of Bermuda. Hemp, who will turn 42 in November, has indicated that he will continue to play for the Associate nation, which has begun the process of appointing a successor.
"It has been a privilege and an honour for me to have had the opportunity to captain the Bermuda national team and has without doubt been one of the highlights of my playing career," Hemp said. "I also would on a personal level like to say a special thank you to all the coaches and back room staff during my time in this role.
"As I have done from the outset, I am fully committed to providing Bermuda cricket support in whatever fashion particularly now as we have multiple global opportunities in tournaments in our immediate future. If I have a chance to assist in a mentoring role any player will receive my full assistance. I still have great passion to play for Bermuda and be part of a team, which currently has many young players, who can aspire to a return to the top level of Associate cricket in the near future."
Next year Bermuda, who were relegated to ICC World Cricket League Division Three in 2011, will begin efforts to qualify for the limited number of places for Associate Members in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and the 2014 World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

Vanuatu take trophy alongside promotion

Vanuatu completed an unbeaten World Cricket League Division 8 tournament with victory in the final against Ghana at Garden Ovals in Samoa

Vanuatu completed an unbeaten World Cricket League Division 8 tournament with victory in the final against Ghana at Garden Ovals in Samoa. Promotion for both teams to Division 7 had already been secured by finishing as the top two sides in the group stage, but this result gave Vanuatu the silverware to go with their earlier efforts.
It was a competitive match, but Vanuatu were always just ahead of the game having recovered from a difficult start when they slipped to 7 for 2 after decided to bat first. Jonathon Dunn led the recovery with 78 off 139 balls, adding 108 for the fourth wicket with Nalin Nipiko who made a brisk 59 off 63 deliveries including three sixes.
At 181 for 3 after 43 overs Vanuatu will have had designs on something closer 250, but Ghana fought back during the closing overs with Issac Aboagye finishing with 4 for 39. However, in a tournament where totals in excess of 200 have been rare it was a testing target for Ghana to chase.
They made a promising start reaching fifty in the 10th over as Obed Harvey put bat to ball effectively but Vanuatu then started to strangle the scoring rate. The third wicket stand of 24 between James Vifah and Samson Awiah took 12 overs to compile – including nine overs from the spin combination of Andrew Mansale and Jelany Chilia that cost just eight runs – and the pressure started to show as Ghana fell to 92 for 5 in the 29th over despite three missed chances in the field.

Reality bites for Nepal and Papua New Guinea

Nepal and Papua New Guinea found out the hard way what life must be like for forage fish on the Great Barrier Reef

Nepal and Papua New Guinea found out the hard way what life must be like for forage fish on the Great Barrier Reef. Both Under-19 teams from Associate cricket nations were annihilated by Full Members in Townsville: Nepal dismissed for 82 by Australia after conceding 294, and Papua New Guinea all out for 116, which West Indies chased in 11.4 overs.
After the defeat at the Tony Ireland Stadium, Nepal's captain Prithu Baskota spoke of how instructive such matches against tough opponents were, of how their U-19 cricketers had never faced bowlers of Harry Conway and Gurinder Sandhu's speed and ability on such a pitch. The issue, however, is the opportunity to put these lessons into practice against superior teams on a regular basis and master them. Nepal don't have it.
They'll play two more games against England and Ireland, probably compete in the Plate section of the World Cup and go home, where quality competition is scarce. "We don't have such opposition back home obviously, we need to go abroad, to Test playing nations close by," says Baskota. "But we haven't got that opportunity. Hope it comes along in the future."
